Residents in the Villages of Cypress Lakes subdivision are on edge due to the new trend.
CYPRESS, Texas — Those living in the Villages of Cypress Lakes neighborhood in Cypress are calling for an end to what they say is startling nonsense.
“Teens and pre-teens playing pranks that they think are innocent but could definitely turn the wrong way very quickly,” a resident who didn’t want to be identified said.
Security cameras captured the moment a young man could be seen kicking the door several times before running away.
“It sounded like the SWAT team was going to break down my door. It was loud. And so, you know, of course, hearing that, our first idea, the first thing that came to mind was protection,” another neighbor said.
She’s not alone. There have been reports of these actions being part of a viral TikTok challenge.
Another neighbor took to a social media neighborhood group to let them know the same kids were caught around 2 a.m. last year throwing a brick at their house and taking off on 4-wheelers.
“Times are very, very different now, you know. A lot of people are on edge because so many things are, so many criminal activities are happening within our community,” the neighbor said.
KHOU 11 reported on the same neighborhood back in January when a neighbor took matters into his own hands and pulled a rifle on a group of teens trying to break into his cars.
Neighbors are now urging parents to talk to their kids about their actions knowing lives are depending on it.
“I totally understand they’re in that age group. It’s a very hard and confusing time for them which is why they need a lot of guidance from their parents,” the neighbor said.
We reached out to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, which said it’s encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity.
