Tiny backpacks, big first steps: Pre-K 4 SA enrollment opens Feb. 1

Pre-K 4 SA enrollment opens Feb. 1 for San Antonio families.

SAN ANTONIO — Get ready for finger paints, story time and brand-new little backpacks.

Enrollment for Pre-K 4 SA opens Sunday, Feb. 1 at 8 a.m., giving families across San Antonio the chance to sign up their future scholars for the 2026–27 school year.

Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2026, to apply. Applications can be submitted online at prek4sa.com and are processed on a rolling basis.

Pre-K 4 SA is the city’s premier early childhood education program, offering free full-day pre-kindergarten, meals and snacks, and transportation for every child. Qualifying families can also take part in an extended-day learning program, while tuition assistance and scholarships are available for families who don’t meet state guidelines for free pre-K.

The program operates four education centers across the city, north, south, east and west, making it easier for families to find a classroom close to home.

Families can also apply to the Gardendale Early Learning Program, powered by Pre-K 4 SA, which serves students from pre-K 4 through second grade.

Parents who want to learn more can call the enrollment team at (210) 206-7735 or email prek4saenrollment@sanantonio.gov. Tours and application help are available by appointment.

And mark your calendar: Pre-K 4 SA will host open house events at each education center on Saturday, May 2, giving families the chance to meet teachers, explore classrooms and imagine their child’s first day of school.

Because every big future starts with a very small backpack.
