Spurs icon Tony Parker expressed his ambition to coach in the NBA.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker is ready to take on a new chapter post-playing days: head coaching duties.
Parker spoke with French outlet L’Equipe about being ready to coach basketball in the NBA.
“My dream is to coach in the NBA,” Parker said.
Parker, who retired in 2019, has been away from the game, focusing on his business ventures and the French teams he owns (ASVEL) as well as working with the French National Team.
The former guard has been around the team during practices and at games but has not taken any official spot with the Spurs since retirement. Tim Duncan served as an Assistant Coach (2019-2020) and Manu Ginobili currently serves as a player development coach.
Parker has not coached in his career and it will be interesting if the Spurs offer him a coaching spot, as they have in the past for other former players including Ime Udoka, Monty Williams and Jacque Vaughn.
