SAN ANTONIO — According to a report from The Athletic, the San Antonio Spurs are reportedly set to play in France next season.
The report states that the Spurs have agreed in principle to participate in a Paris game in 2025 and plans are already underway to make this happen.
However, Spurs legend and Basketball Hall of Famer, Tony Parker may have revealed a bit more about the Silver and Black in France.
During an interview with French outlet Canal + Sport, Paker said the Spurs will play two games in France.
“It’s very good news to have Spurs next year, and for two games,” he said.
France will be the center of the basketball world this summer.
The NBA announced that it’ll be joining the French Basketball Federation and the LNB Betclic ELITE – France’s top professional basketball league – on several initiatives to expand youth basketball development in France ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic games in Paris, where basketball will be a featured sport.
Parker will be participating in a series of basketball-related clinics and workshops.
Also, Spurs rookie and Frenchman Victor Wembanyama will likely be suiting up for Team France at the Olympic Games this summer which makes the Spurs a hot commodity in France.
Not only that, the Spurs have had a host of French players to play for the team including Parker, Bori Diaw, Nando de Colo, Ian Mahinmi, and Wembanyama.
Note, there has been no official statement from the NBA regarding a pair of Spurs games in France next year.
But if true, it surely will put a smile on Wembanyama’s face knowing he’ll be able to wear the French colors this summer and the Spurs colors next season in front of his home crowd.
