SAN ANTONIO — A nursery in Leakey, Texas, that has been in business since 2004 saw its pots destroyed and its greenhouse damaged as large hail pummeled the region Tuesday evening.
“There are no words to explain what happened today. A hail storm destroyed our precious place,” staff at Dora’s Nursery shared in a video post Tuesday evening, walking through the business and showing images of wrecked pots and plants. “Thankfully we’re all OK, but it will take time to rebuild our nursery.”
The business said it would be closed Wednesday for those cleanup efforts.
Previous posts on the nursery’s Facebook page show off how colorful its plants on the ground and hanging overhead looked as recently as last week before the storm.
The nursery’s Tuesday video had racked up nearly 70,000 views in less than two hours, and more than 300 comments from people largely sharing messages of support after the destruction.
Leakey was hit particularly hard by grapefruit-sized hail on Tuesday evening, with Del Rio further west also getting pounded.
