Toy gun discovered after roof shingle robbery in Von Ormy

Police arrested a man for robbery after he allegedly threatened a victim with a toy gun while stealing roof shingles in a new development area on the southwest side.

SAN ANTONIO — Two men are in custody after police say they used what turned out to be a toy gun to steal building supplies at a construction site in Von Ormy early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched for reports of a robbery in progress around 3 a.m. to the 6000 block of Sliding Way near Fischer Road.

Police saw a vehicle with two occupants fleeing from the location as they were pulling up to the scene. Police say the two men, one 57-years-old and the other 38-years-old, were seen stealing roof shingles from a new build area at a property under construction.

The 25-year-old victim told police he confronted the suspects while they were trying to steal the supplies when he pulled out a weapon. The suspects then drove off and shortly afterward were apprehended. 

Police found a toy gun discarded by one of the suspects as they were fleeing the scene. 

The 57-year-old man was arrested for robbery, and the 38-year-old suspect is currently under investigation and pending charges. 

This investigation remains ongoing.
