Toy gun incident prompts heightened security at Brackenridge High School

SAISD is increasing security after a toy gun was found on a high school campus.

SAN ANTONIO — More security will be added to Brackenridge High School after reports of a student with a gun on campus, which San Antonio ISD later determined to be false.

A letter from Mandie Holtsford, the Brackenridge High School Principal, was sent to families Tuesday regarding the incident.

According to the letter, administrators were notified that a student may be in possession of a gun at the school. School officials along with officers immediately began investigating and discovered the item was a toy gun.

The district said the toy was confiscated and reassured parents that there was no threat to the campus.

“We take reports such as this seriously, and as a precaution, officers are enhancing their presence on and around campus. Student safety is a top priority at SAISD schools, and we want to keep families informed of situations as soon as we are able,” Holtsford stated in the letter.

No other information was provided.
