SAN ANTONIO — According to San Antonio Police, a traffic stop led police to fatally shooting a man on the city’s south side early Thursday morning.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. in the 700 block of east Southcross Boulevard.
SAPD Chief William McManus says there was a physical fight between officers and the suspect when they noticed he had a gun.
Police say the two officers approached the vehicle during the traffic stop and officers tried to get the man to come out of his vehicle leading to a struggle.
Police say the suspect had a gun in his hand and one of the officers shot the suspect in the torso.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the suspect was in his 40s and had a long history of violent offenses. McManus also said the suspect was currently out on probation.
Officials say the SAPD officer who shot the suspect had three years on the force.
