Trinity senior becomes programs all time three point shooter

KENS 5 spent some time with Jacob Harvey in the gym and talked about his huge accomplishment.

SAN ANTONIO — Number 228! That was the number for the record. Now Trinity senior Jacob Harvey is the all-time career makes leader in three pointers! KENS 5 spent some time with Jacob in the gym and talked about his huge accomplishment.

His shooting routine goes back with his father offering some advice that has clearly paid off for college days in San Antonio.

“My dad always kept me under the goal shooting close shots,” Harvey said. “If my shot was ever feeling off he was always telling me to get back under the goal and start close. ‘Work your way out’ and that has always kind of been my bread and butter.”

My favorite thing about great shooters, especially the great ones from three point range, are those “heat check” moments, as they say. You know, you’ve hit a couple in a row and you take another to see hot your shooting hand really is.

“I love taking heat checks,” he said. “You hit a couple and you are feeling good. Heat checks are great to shoot.”

We finally got down to business in the middle of the conversation and talked about what the record now means to him.

“I wouldn’t say that it was a goal of mine coming into Trinity,” he said. “As games go on and on and you get closer and closer, I just kept shooting and had the mentality that whenever it happens, it happens.”

Jacob said he didn’t want to know where he was in relation to the record chase with each passing regular season game this season.

“Don’t think about it as much,” he said.

He recalled the game moment it happened on the home court against Concordia.

“I finally got one in the corner,” he said. “It felt and looked good and as soon as it left my hand, I knew it was good.”

Jacob said he’s shot more and more corner three’s since arriving at Trinity.

“The corner kind of become my favorite,” he added.

He said there’s nothing like taking a three from anywhere around the court and having that confidence that it’s gonna fall.

“Almost like a flow state where you are just letting it fly and it is going in,” he said.

Jacob acknowledged how the game continues to change and evolved with so much three point shooting but he’d like to record to stand for as long as possible. As this regular season continues, after he already owns the record, he just might put it out of reach.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to get into a spot where it stands for a long time,” he said.
