SAN ANTONIO — Authorities say three staff members at Watts Elementary, part of Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, are investigation for “alleged misconduct” that has resulted in one of them facing a felony child injury charge.
That staff member, 70-year-old Julia Cantu of San Antonio, is a teacher’s aide at the school, according to a Cibolo PD press release. The two others at the center of the police investigation, 42-year-old Jessica Longo and 47-year-old Veronica Guerra-Ulrich, face unlawful restraint charges.
All three, police say, were arrested and jailed in Guadalupe County on Monday. Authorities said they were initially notified about the misconduct on Dec. 17, but didn’t detail the allegations.
“Immediately upon receiving the report, Cibolo Police Department detectives were assigned to the case and initiated a comprehensive investigation,” officials said in a press release. “Initial steps included conducting interviews with SCUCISD administration and reviewing available camera footage related to the incident.”
Police say the investigation remains ongoing, with additional charges against the suspects possible.
Multiple other teachers have been accused of child indecency, assault and child abuse while working at SCUCISD facilities over the last two years.
