A truck crashed into an Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol car during a traffic stop on Highway 16 in the northern part of the county.
ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — Dashcam video captured the moment a truck collided with an Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle during a routine traffic stop Wednesday night.
According to ACSO, deputies initiated a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Stacey Road around 6:50 p.m. in the northern part of the county. This was a two-man patrol unit at the time of the traffic stop.
Authorities said as deputies were talking with the driver of the car they had pulled over, a truck traveling southbound on Highway 16 struck the ACSO patrol vehicle.
At the time of the collision, no one was inside the patrol vehicle, and the vehicle had all of its emergency lights activated, as is protocol on a traffic stop.
The truck that struck the patrol unit then lost control and came to a stop in a grassy area just south of the crash scene.
According to a report, the deputies immediately checked on the occupants of the vehicle they had pulled over and the truck that struck them. No one in either vehicle was injured, nor were the ACSO deputies.
Texas DPS Troopers were called in to investigate the crash, which is customary when any ACSO vehicle is involved in a collision.
ACSO reminds drivers to slow down, move over and use extreme caution when operating a car or truck in proximity to any emergency vehicles that are working on public roadways.
