TSA issues warning to travelers after third loaded firearm found at San Antonio Intl. Airport in 3 days

Travelers are reminded to pack firearms properly and review travel guidelines after a third loaded gun was found at San Antonio International Airport this month.

SAN ANTONIO — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is reminding travelers flying on a commercial aircraft to pack their firearm properly before heading to the airport.

This comes as TSA officials say a third loaded firearm was discovered in carry-on luggage at the San Antonio International Airport in just the first three days of June.

The TSA says the firearm discoveries took place Sunday, June 1, Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3. Officials say officers have detected 49 firearms during routine X-ray screenings at the SAT security checkpoint since January 1. Of those, the TSA says 43 firearms were loaded.

Officials remind travelers that firearms must be unloaded, locked in a hard-sided case and placed in checked baggage. Violators face fines of over $12,000 and the loss of their TSA precheck status.
