Two construction workers seriously injured after cherry picker bucket falls to ground along 1604 and I-10

A beam fell into the cherry picker, knocking it to the ground and pinning the workers.

SAN ANTONIO — Two construction workers are in serious condition after their cherry picker bucket falls to the ground early Friday morning.

San Antonio Police say the men were working on the construction along the 1604 access road and I-10 on the northwest side near The Rim around 1 a.m.

Crews have reportedly been working every night on the major highway project.

Police say the men were lifting two metal beams into place and were trying to attach them to some concrete pillars when a chain holding one of the beams broke.

The beam fell into the cherry picker, knocking it to the ground and pinning the workers. The workers were rescued by firefighters, authorities say.

The workers were rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.

No other information was provided.

This is a developing story.
