LA SALLE COUNTY, Texas — A major accident claimed the lives of two people southwest of San Antonio in La Salle County on Monday.
The fiery crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Interstate-35 North near the mile 55 marker.
Officials say the crash resulted in the deaths of two people and caused a severe traffic jam that significantly delayed commuters in the area.
“The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathies to the families and love ones of those who lost their lives,” said a Facebook post from La Salle County Sheriff’s Office. “We understand that no words can ease the pain of such loss, and our hands are with those affected during this incredibly difficult time. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the first responders, medical personnel, county commissioners, law enforcement agencies, and community members who provided assistance at the scene. Your swift and coordinated efforts were vital in managing the emergency and ensuring public safety.”
An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
