San Antonio debates financing a new Spurs arena as propositions ‘A’ and ‘B’ await voters’ decision this November.
SAN ANTONIO — It’s being called a pivotal moment for San Antonio’s future. Whether to finance and build a new arena for the Spurs or not.
And two events held this weekend show both sides of Project Marvel. The Spurs rallied for support on Saturday hosting the official kickoff rally for their “Win Together” campaign at Idle Beer hall & Brewery.
The push centers on propositions ‘A’ and ‘B’ on the November ballot.
Proposition ‘A’ would dedicate $192 million in visitor tax revenue to expand and modernize the Frost Bank Center, Freeman Coliseum and the Rodeo grounds.
Prop ‘B’ would authorize up to $311 million toward a new downtown arena for the Spurs.
Spurs Chairman Peter J. Holt says this project will really anchor the urban core of our future.
The Spurs are pledging half a billion dollars to the project and say taxpayers won’t see new taxes.
500 community leaders with community watchdog “COPS/Metro” will gather Sunday to fight Project Marvel and push for public dollars to stay in neighborhoods.
Voters will decide November 4.
