SAN ANTONIO — Two young ladies from San Antonio ISD made their district proud with their historic achievements at the state-level in wrestling.
Gideon Sanchez, a senior at Burbank High School and junior Maria Munoz from Edison High School placed at the UIL Class 5A State Wrestling tournament last weekend, according to the school district.
Gideon earned the fourth place spot in the 132-pound division while Maria took home sixth place in the 145-pound division. Both athletes set school and district records for the highest any SAISD student-athlete has earned in the state wrestling competition, according to the district.
Gideon is ending her high school career as a three-time district champion, three time regional champion and a four-time state qualifier.
Maria, who has one year left of high school, has won two district championships and qualified for regionals and state twice.
Gideon’s coach is Jimmy Trevino and Maria’s coach is Joshua Bustamante.
