
Atascosa County deputies arrested two men early Wednesday after a traffic stop uncovered stolen mail and tools tied to a recent string of mailbox burglaries.
ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — Two men are in custody after sheriff’s deputies say they were caught with stolen mail and tools linked to a string of mailbox burglaries in Atascosa County.
According to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, multiple community mailboxes across the county have been broken into in recent weeks. Deputies conducted surveillance early Wednesday morning at a location that had previously been targeted.
Investigators say two men approached the area, noticed a deputy, and quickly drove off. Deputies stopped the vehicle a short distance from the mailboxes and found several tools commonly used in mailbox burglaries, along with mail that did not belong to either suspect, including a stolen Texas driver’s license.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
James Hale, a San Antonio resident, is charged with unlawful use of a criminal instrument, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, and driving while license invalid.
Francisco Mora, of Von Ormy, is charged with unlawful use of a criminal instrument and fraudulent use or possession of identifying information.
The investigation remains ongoing.
