Two men shot in domestic dispute in Sunnyside, one dead, HPD says

A man is dead, and another is in critical condition after a shooting at a Sunnyside home on Tuesday evening, say Houston police.

HOUSTON — Two men were shot Tuesday evening at a home in Sunnyside, leaving one dead at the scene and another fighting for his life in surgery, according to Houston police.

Southeast patrol officers responded to the shooting call at Reed and Jutland around 6:30 p.m. and found both victims with gunshot wounds. The second victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where he remains in surgery. Officers are monitoring his status.

Lt. Larry Crowson said a known male suspect came to the residence and got into an argument with the two men before opening fire. The shooter then fled the scene in a black Dodge pickup truck.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between a current boyfriend and an ex-husband, though police are still working to determine the exact relationships between those involved.

“We don’t believe there’s a danger to the general public,” Crowson said. “We believe there was some kind of an argument between a current boyfriend and the ex-husband that resulted in the shooting tonight.”

Homicide investigators and the crime scene unit have arrived at the scene and are interviewing witnesses. Police said they hope to locate and apprehend the suspect shortly.
