Two officers shot at Highway 90 and West Military Drive, officials say

Two officers were shot and are expected to recover, while one person is confirmed dead in a west-side incident, police say.

SAN ANTONIO — Two officers were shot and one person is confirmed dead on the west side of San Antonio Wednesday morning, officials said.

Several police units and first responders are at the scene at Highway 90 and West Military Drive around 8:34 a.m. Traffic cameras show many police cars gathered around a motel on the access road of Highway 90.

Chief William McManus said it all started with a call to 911 where the callers reported someone taunting them in the parking lot of the hotel. Two officers and a cadet were in the area already and were able to respond right away.

As the officers were responding, the suspect walked to the back of the building, police say. When the suspect returned, Chief McManus says the suspect told the officers, “I am not going back to jail.” That’s when he opened fire on the officers, the police chief said.  Two officers were hit, both in the arm, and one in the leg. All three officers returned fire and the suspect was shot and killed, police say.

The officers were taken to the hospital and police say they should be OK.
