Two teens facing capital murder charges in shooting death of man back in January, BCSO says

Authorities have charged two suspects with capital murder for a January killing but are still searching for two others involved.

SAN ANTONIO — Two suspects have been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of a man back in January, and authorities are looking for two other suspects in the case.

Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a news conference Thursday that Keylow Kimenker, 19, was arrested in the death of a John Nelson Leonard. Another suspect in the case, a 17-year-old male, was already in a jail for a separate charge. That teenager is not being identified because he was 16 at the time of the murder.

Back on Jan. 14, deputies responded to the 6800 block of Oldham Road, near Montgomery Drive and New World Drive on the northeast side. They found Leonard unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds, and no suspects were found at the time.

Investigators say in the following weeks, federal agents from the ATF recovered a gun from a separate shooting with shell casings that matched the Oldham shooting.

In March, deputies received a report of a robbery at the residence of Paul Bussell. In that case, he had planned to sell a firearm and was robbed at gunpoint. He reportedly planned to cooperate with investigators at one point, but on March 18, he was found dead with 13 gunshot wounds.

The investigation led deputies to Kimenker, who was arrested shortly after Bussell’s murder. The teenage suspect was arrested on other charges, but not directly in connection with Bussell’s murder.

Salazar says investigators believe Kimenker was involved in the murder of both Bussell and Leonard. They say the motive in Leonard’s murder was a drug deal and the motive behind Bussell’s murder was the weapons deal. Kimenker faces capital murder charges in both cases, Salazar said. The teen suspect will be charged with capital murder in the death of John Nelson Leonard.

Authorities believe there are at least two other suspects involved. Please call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office if you have any information on these cases.
