Two women hospitalized after late-night crash near downtown San Antonio

Two women in their 20s were hospitalized after a late-night crash near downtown San Antonio that nearly sent their vehicles onto I-35.

SAN ANTONIO — Two women in their 20s were taken to the hospital following a late-night crash near downtown San Antonio, according to police.

The collision happened just before midnight Sunday, Dec. 28, at the I-35 access road and North Pine Street.

Police said two vehicles collided in the intersection and nearly went down an embankment toward the highway. One of the drivers was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be extracted by San Antonio firefighters.

Both drivers, each in their 20s, were taken to Brooke Army Medical Center. Authorities said one of the women was unconscious when she was taken to the hospital.

Investigators said both drivers will be assessed for possible DWI at the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

San Antonio Police, San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the scene.
