TxDOT fleets prep San Antonio roads amid freezing rain

“We need to be very cautious about the potential for ice on roadways,” said Texas Division of Emergency Management official Seth Christensen.

SAN ANTONIO — A familiar sight anytime freezing rain is expected in San Antonio is a fleet of TxDOT trucks on the road, pretreating the asphalt with brine.

“As we move from Friday evening into Saturday morning until about noon on Saturday, we need to be very cautious about the potential for ice on roadways,” said Texas Division of Emergency Management official Seth Christensen.

Christensen also says ice accumulation is their biggest concern with this incoming arctic blast.

Ice can create slick spots for drivers, especially in places like bridges and overpasses.

“But even when they treat the roads, they can still be dangerous, and we want people to take precautions,” Christensen said.

Christensen urges people to avoid driving Friday night and early Saturday.

But if you have to travel, watch out for possible dangers behind the wheel.

“We want people to be cautious of black ice and stay off the roads,” Christensen said.
