TxDOT: I-10 to close eastbound lanes at Loop 1604 this weekend

The closure will begin on Friday at 9 p.m. and is expected to be completed Monday by 5 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonians trying to get to The Rim or Six Flags this weekend might need to find a detour.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says eastbound Interstate 10 lanes at Loop 1604 will shut down Friday evening as construction continues on the yearslong expansion project

TxDOT says the main lanes of westbound Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 will remain open.

The closure will last from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, as those who try to travel along Interstate 10 through the interchange will be forced onto frontage roads before re-entering the highway later.

Those hoping to hop onto I-10 from Loop 1604, meanwhile, will have to take a different exit or the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway.

This weekend’s closure will allow crews to continue construction of the flyover ramps at the interchange as part of the second segment of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project. The project, which TxDOT says is aimed at improving mobility and reducing congestion along the highway, “brings $1.4 billion of transportation investments.” When all is said and done, the highway will be 10 lanes across on the north side.

Local law enforcement will direct traffic through the intersections during this time. All construction lane closures are weather permitting and subject to change.
