TxDOT: Weeklong shutdown planned at major San Antonio intersection

Drivers in San Antonio’s Northwest Side should expect overnight traffic changes in the La Cantera area this week. A busy intersection near I-10 will close during late-night hours as construction continues on Loop 1604.

The Texas Department of Transportation will implement nightly closures at the La Cantera Parkway intersection at I-10, including U-turns, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday, Jan. 18, through Sunday, Jan. 25, weather permitting. The closures are part of ongoing bridge construction tied to the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.

According to TxDOT, the work will affect traffic on both the eastbound and westbound I-10 frontage roads during overnight hours. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detour signage while crews are working. Daytime traffic is not expected to be impacted.

Motorists traveling eastbound on the I-10 frontage road who need to turn left or make a U-turn at La Cantera Parkway will be directed to continue east and use the signalized U-turn at the Loop 1604 interchange. From there, drivers may enter the westbound I-10 frontage road and either turn right onto La Cantera Parkway or continue west.

Drivers on the westbound I-10 frontage road looking to turn left or make a U-turn at La Cantera Parkway will instead continue west and use the U-turn at Camp Bullis Road. That route will place drivers onto the eastbound frontage road, where they may turn right onto La Cantera Parkway or continue east.

TxDOT said the closure schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.
