Tyler family finds support in faith after tree wrecks home

A massive tree crashed through a Tyler family’s home during a thunderstorm, leaving it uninhabitable.

TYLER, Texas — A Tyler family is without a home after a massive tree crashed through their roof during a powerful thunderstorm.

Bill and Chris Jones say the storm struck around 3:30 p.m. Friday. The couple was outside when lightning began to flash and winds picked up rapidly. Before they could get to safety, a large tree toppled onto their home, shattering the roof and sending debris throughout the house.

“It sounded like a bomb went off,” Bill said. “There was glass breaking, ceilings collapsing, we did not know what was happening.”

The home sustained major damage, including flooding and structural instability. Making matters worse, the family says their insurance provider was initially unresponsive, delaying assistance despite the home being uninhabitable.

“We felt like no one cared. It was not until the media got involved that things started to move.” Chris said.

Despite the setback, the family they are leaning on their faith and support from neighbors and Cross Brand Cowboy Church. Community members have offered them temporary shelter and help with cleanup.

“No matter what happens, we know blessings will come out of this,” Chris said.

They are asking for continued prayers as they begin to recover from the destruction. A GoFundMe has been created to help them rebuild, which has already amassed $2,600 of their $5,000 goal.
