U.S. Coast Guard rescues dog they say had been in shipping container for Port Houston for more than a week

The Coast Guard said Connie was heard barking and scratching from inside a container that had been sealed.

HOUSTON — It’s said that cats have nine lives, but a dog found in a shipping container could give any cat a run for its money.

The dog, named “Connie,” was found in a shipping container at the Bayport Terminal at Port Houston on Wednesday. According to the Coast Guard, inspectors randomly inspected containers when they heard barking and scratching come from one of them.

When they lowered it down and opened it up, they said Connie jumped out.

The Coast Guard said cars from a junkyard were in the container and they suspect the dog may have been in one of the cars that was loaded into it. The container made it to Port Houston on Jan. 23, so they believe the dog had been inside for more than a week!

Connie was tired and hungry. Her rescuers said she was glad to see them. Connie was given water and taken to Pasadena Animal Shelter for care.

“Thanks to their actions, Connie the Container Dog is safe and sound!” read the Coast Guard’s Facebook post.

Connie will be put up for adoption soon. If you’re interested, you can fill out an application. The information on adoption is in the Coast Guard’s post below.
