Uber driver accidentally hits and kills woman in northwest-side San Antonio, police say

Police said the vehicle accelerated off the roadway and struck a woman standing on the corner holding an advertising sign.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman died Saturday afternoon after she was struck by a vehicle on the city’s inner northwest side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. at the intersection of West Quill Drive and Bandera Road, police said.

According to SAPD, an Uber driver was turning from Quill Drive onto Bandera Road when he intended to press the brakes but accidentally pressed the accelerator instead. Police said the vehicle accelerated off the roadway and struck a woman standing on the corner holding an advertising sign.

Authorities described the victim as a woman in her mid-30s. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver is cooperating with investigators. SAPD said the incident is being treated as an accident and is not considered criminal.
