UH grad takes dramatic tumble on stage, becomes viral hit

He says he was briefly unconscious after the hard landing, but is OK.

HOUSTON — A University of Houston graduate’s failed backflip attempt during commencement has gone viral on social media.

Kenneth Cofer received his diploma for his Sports Administration degree, and wanted to do something memorable. In that, at least, he succeeded.

He tried to complete a backflip on the middle of the stage. Instead of landing on his feet, he landed on his neck. A dean rushed to him, and he stood up and walked off the stage.

Video of the stunt has millions of views on TikTok.

“In my head, I actually did a really cool somersault, like a WWE superstar and landed it,” said Cofer. “But I did not.”

Cofer told KHOU 11 that he was briefly knocked out. He said he did get checked out and cleared by medical staff

Cofer has a job lined up following graduation working with college students.
