United Way of the Coastal Bend, Steel Dynamics dollar-for-dollar match donates more than $400K to Sinton fire victims

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The United Way of the Coastal Bend and Steel Dynamics teamed up to donate more than $400,000 to Welder Fire victims in Sinton on Friday.

Steel Dynamics donated $200,000 as part of a dollar-for-dollar match agreement with The United Way of the Coastal Bend, which now has raised more than $200K.

It has been more than a month since the Welder Fire destroyed multiple structures in Sinton and left many displaced.

Since then, the community has seen an outpouring of support from organizations across the Coastal Bend, and one of those in particular is Sinton-based Steel Dynamics.

“Steel Dynamics approached us and said if we started this Wildfire Relief Fund they would match up to a certain date, everything that was contributed and it was a great big effort on their part to be able to match these dollars,” said United Way of the Coastal Bend President and CEO Stephanie Jordan. “We had a lot of companies that donated from Corpus, Sinton, all over the Coastal Bend.”

That check donation Friday totaled $200,000.
