UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas — Dozens of families have been rehoused following a fire that tore through an apartment complex in Universal City last week.
City officials say 61 apartments at the Falcon Ridge Apartments were damaged in the fire, with 11 units destroyed. Fortunately, everyone, including pets, was able to escape safely.
Officials have not released information about what caused the fire. Universal City leaders provided more details, including an update on recovery efforts, during a press conference on Monday at 11 a.m.
Property managers at Falcon Ridge say they have relocated displaced residents into any available apartments on-site. In addition, the local apartment association has offered to help find housing for those affected.
“Everyone’s main concern is their safety,” Jody Marquez with Infinity Property Management, who oversees Falcon Ridge Apartments, said in the Monday press conference.
Universal City Fire Marshal Justin Garcia stated during the conference that they have multiple leads on what started the fire. They cannot release any other information because this is an ongoing investigation.
The city has released new images showing the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, the First Baptist Church of Universal City has become a central hub for recovery efforts, serving as both a shelter and a donation drop-off location for residents in need.
Universal City First Baptist Church has also been accepting donations for those affected. Currently, they are only accepting monetary donations.
