SAN ANTONIO — A woman is recovering after an early-morning shooting on the southeast-side, though San Antonio police now say the gunfire was accidental and self-inflicted, according to an updated report.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 3900 block of East Southcross Boulevard. Officers originally responded to what was reported as a drive-by shooting. The 44-year-old woman told police she had been walking home from her parents’ house when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, striking her in the hip.
Investigators say the woman managed to walk back to her apartment complex, where her boyfriend helped her inside and called for assistance. She was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in stable condition.
However, after further interviews, detectives say the woman admitted the shooting was self-inflicted and happened accidentally. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge. No arrests have been made.
This remains a developing story.
