Utility truck with a lift hits car on I-35, causes traffic delays

The utility truck somehow toppled over and the extended lift hit a small black sedan that was heading northbound on the freeway.

VON ORMY, Texas — Emergency crews responded to a accident involving a bucket truck on I-35 Monday morning.

Contractors on scene say crews were working alongside I-35 near Benton City Road in Von Ormy. The crews were using a bucket truck or utility truck with a lift and were attempting to fix a broken down light.

Contractors said somehow the truck toppled over and the extended arm or lift hit a small black sedan that was heading northbound on the freeway.

The crane operator and two women who were in the black sedan were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

KENS 5 crew members were on scene and saw that the northbound lanes going into San Antonio were closed off and traffic has been re-routed to the access road. The main lanes going southbound from San Antonio are still open.

Emergency crews say it could take several hours to clear the scene and reopen the lanes.

If you are traveling in southwest Bexar County you are advised to go slow or find an alternate route.
