Sammie Ricker steps into his first varsity head coaching role at Burbank High after a standout stint at LEE High.
SAN ANTONIO — Former Roadrunner Sammie “Mitchell” Ricker has been named the new head football coach at Burbank High School.
This is Ricker’s first varsity football head coaching gig since starting his coaching journey in 2014. He replaces Michael Mull, who will now serve as the defensive coordinator at Johnson High School.
Ricker served as the defensive coordinator at San Antonio’s Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School this past season, where the Volunteers defense allowed the least amount of points per game since 2017. The year before, Ricker was the defensive coordinator at Burbank High School when the Bulldogs qualified for the bi-district game.
The UTSA graduate inherits a Bulldog team that is coming off their first district championship since 1978, and has made the state playoffs four of the last seven seasons.
“I am very excited,” said Ricker, a San Antonio native and graduate of MacArthur High School. “A strong foundation has already been set at Burbank. They have strong leadership at the campus. I am very lucky and blessed to continue to try and have success there. They have great kids and a great community.”
