Uvalde CISD closes after reporting cyber security threat to FBI

UCISD says “ransomware” has been detected in severs across the district, which is reportedly severely affecting access to several essential online services.

UVALDE, Texas — The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) has announced a temporary closure due to what they are calling a “significant technology incident.”

UCISD says “ransomware” has been detected in severs across the district, which is reportedly severely affecting access to several of the following essential online systems:

  • Phones
  • Some AC thermostats
  • Central camera monitoring location
  • Visitor management systems
  • Skyward
  • Other critical online services

The district says they have reported the incident to the FBI as they will reportedly use forensic analysis to determine “how the malware was introduced and assess whether any sensitive information has been compromised.”

UCISD announced they will be closed from Sept. 15 to Sept. 18 as the FBI conducts their investigation:

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this situation has created for the Uvalde CISD students, staff, parents and caregivers.

We genuinely value your patience and cooperation as we work to resolve these challenges.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this period.”
