Uvalde CISD briefly placed two elementary schools on secure status after receiving a robotic, incoherent call about an individual in a parking lot.
SAN ANTONIO — Uvalde CISD placed two elementary schools under “secure status” Wednesday after a phone call about “the presence of an individual in the parking lot,” district officials said.
Legacy Elementary and Dalton Elementary were placed on secure status out of an “abundance of caution” for a short time Wednesday, Uvalde CISD said. Secure status means no one is allowed in or out of these campuses.
The district said it received an automatic phone call reporting the presence of an individual in the parking lot of Legacy Elementary. The district also said the call was “robotic and somewhat incoherent,” prompting precautionary measures.
Uvalde CISD said the parking lots of Legacy, Dalton, Morales JH, Uvalde High School, and UDLA were all checked and secured.
The district released a statement that said in part:
“We recognize that these situations can be distressing for families and staff alike. Please know that we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all. Your support and understanding during these challenging times are greatly appreciated.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your respective campus offices.”
