UVALDE, Texas — Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Ashley Chohlis has announced her resignation, effective April 7, 2026, according to Uvalde CISD officials.

District officials said Chohlis made the decision after careful consideration and plans to pursue new professional opportunities, bringing her tenure with UCISD to an end.

During her time as superintendent, Chohlis led several key initiatives across the district, according to district leaders.

Academically, Uvalde CISD said the district introduced “high-quality instructional materials” and strengthened professional development programs for educators. The district also implemented new methods to better meet the needs of all learners.

Uvalde CISD said Chohlis worked to build stronger community relationships and helped lead efforts to support student learning and growth.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of Uvalde,” Chohlis said in a statement released by Uvalde CISD.. She credited district employees and community partners for supporting the district’s mission and said she remains hopeful for UCISD’s future success.

Uvalde CISD will begin a search for a new superintendent to continue what officials described as the trajectory of excellence established under Chohlis’ leadership, according to district officials.
