The nonprofit says it’s pushing for renewed search efforts despite fears stirred up by the recent discovery of human remains near Caleb’s last known location.
TEXAS, USA — The Uvalde Foundation For Kids announced Wednesday that it will be assembling a special team of volunteers to help in the search for missing Texas college student Caleb Harris.
This comes just two weeks after Corpus Christi Police said they discovered human remains in a wastewater lift station not far from Caleb’s last known location, sparking online speculation that it could be the missing college student. Authorities say, however, there is no evidence at this time that the remains are connected to his disappearance.
Officials with The Uvalde Foundation For Kids say they are pushing for renewed search efforts and a call for community aid, despite fears stirred up by the recent discovery.
The student advocacy and violence prevention nonprofit was formed after the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting and aims to end school violence.
Recently, the organization’s founder, Daniel Chapin, announced that the group was launching a hunger strike, demanding accountability and the removal of three Uvalde officers who were among the first responders on scene at Robb Elementary.
The Uvalde Foundation For Kids says the special team of volunteers will be assembled from its STOPNOW school community patrol teams in its Dallas, San Antonio and Bell County chapters. Their teams previously aided in the much publicized search for missing student Riley Strain, in Nashville, Tennessee.
They are calling for the community’s participation and volunteers to join planned grid searches in an effort to reboot the now several months long search.
Thursday marks four months since the 21-year-old from New Braunfels mysteriously vanished from an apartment complex near the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi campus.
“Now is not the time to end the search for this young man. If anything, it should give a renewed hope that persistence and dedication can bring answers, even those we do not wish to hear,” said Uvalde Foundation For Kids STOPNOW Patrol Teams Director, James Earle.
Anyone with any information regarding the disappearance is urged to call Corpus Christi Police at 361-886-2600 or the foundation toll free 24 hour crisis reporting number at 254-206-9089.
