Authorities said the threat was received in San Antonio and forwarded to the Southwest Texas Fusion Center, which then shared it with the Uvalde Police Department. Officials did not disclose details of the threat. Uvalde police said its initial assessment does not allow the department to confirm its credibility as of Thursday evening. However, the department plans to examine the situation thoroughly.

Officials noted threats, like the one received, are not uncommon and often lack credibility upon investigation, but the department said they are taking every threat seriously. Police added, “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals involved, particularly the community and the families affected by the Robb shooting.”

A mass shooting took place in Uvalde at Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022. A gunman fatally shot 19 students and two teachers, while injuring 17 others. The Uvalde Police Department received severe criticism from the public after an investigation revealed officers who responded to the shooting waited more than an hour to enter the classroom where the gunman was located.

Former Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez resigned on Tuesday, March 12. The resignation came less than a week after Uvalde City Council received an investigative report clearing local police officers of wrongdoing in the 2022 Robb Elementary School massacre, according to a report from CNN.

Assistant Police Chief Homer Delgado sent the release about the threat on Thursday, reminding the public the department’s priority remains the well-being of the community and supporting the victims’ families during this challenging time. Delgado asked the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the department promptly.
