Uvalde PD says the teen was riding his scooter when he was shot by a 17-year-old in a passing vehicle.
UVALDE, Texas — The Uvalde Police Department said a male teen was shot by a 17-year-old in a passing vehicle while riding his scooter.
Around 6:30 on Wednesday, Uvalde PD responded to the 800 block of South High Street after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found a male teen suffering “serious injuries” from gunfire and quickly began to treat him until EMS arrived and took him to a local hospital.
Authorities said the teen’s injuries are considered to be serious.
A preliminary investigation led detectives to believe the teen was riding his scooter along the roadway when someone in a passing vehicle shot him.
With evidence gathered from the scene, it only took Uvalde police officers about an hour to identify the suspect as a 17-year-old male.
The next day, officials located him in the 800 block of Wilson Street, issued the warrants for his arrest and placed him into custody.
Investigators said while they were executing the search warrant, they recovered a firearm and evidence that could link the teen to other crimes.
Assistant Chief Mike Davis released the following statement after arresting the 17-year-old suspect on Thursday:
“Our agency remains steadfast in its commitment to public safety. We will continue to utilize every available resource to combat violent crime and protect our community.
