Family of Jose Andres Bordones-Molina, the only survivor of the Dallas ICE facility shooting, said they fear for his safety in custody.
DALLAS — The family of a Venezuelan man shot during an attack on a Dallas immigration facility says they first learned of his injuries through social media and remain desperate for answers.
Jose Andres Bordones-Molina, 33, was one of three men shot at the facility last week. He was the only survivor. His parents, who live in Venezuela, said they viewed surveillance footage of the facility on social media, and they were able to identify their son running into the building with bloodied shorts.
“We feel so worried… we’re in distress,” his father, Jose Bordones, said in Spanish during an interview with WFAA. “What’s going to happen to my son?”
Bordones-Molina is a husband and father of two daughters, all of whom remain in Venezuela. His wife said she learned of the shooting through a TikTok video. They didn’t know whether he was dead or alive for several days.
“The worst goes through your mind, even more so when you don’t have information,” his father said. “It’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”
According to his family, Bordones-Molina came to the U.S. under the CBP One program, which became the primary method for asylum seekers to enter U.S. ports of entry during the Biden administration.
In a statement to WFAA, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that Bordones-Molina illegally entered the country on Aug. 12, 2024. ICE said he was arrested on Sept. 24, 2025, after being released from the Hurst City Jail, where he was held for a traffic offense.
That same morning, ICE said, Bordones-Molina was being transported to the agency’s Dallas Field Office when a sniper opened fire on the building, targeting ICE officers. While taking gunfire, officers evacuated Bordones-Molina from the van, provided emergency aid, and moved him to safety until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Parkland Health hospital, treated for a graze wound to the head, and later released back into ICE custody.

His family said he later told them he was transferred to Prairieland Detention Center.
“First and foremost, he needs medical attention,” his father said, adding they fear for his safety while he remains detained.
ICE said Bordones-Molina was arrested again in January 2025 by Arlington police for theft. He is currently in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings. His father said his son migrated like many others, seeking the American dream.
“Unfortunately, he got a nightmare,” he said.
He said their access and communication with their son are limited and had a message for his son: “I hope you get better as soon as possible, and by the grace of God, we will reunite soon.“
