SAN ANTONIO — A vent fan caused a south-side home to catch fire Friday afternoon, San Antonio firefighters said.
Fire crews were called to the 200 block of East Hafer around 1:15 p.m., for a reported structure fire.
Officials said a house that was under renovation caught fire due to a vent fan in the bathroom. The fire was contained to the attic and caused notable damage to the wood. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes.
No one was at the residence at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, according to SAFD.
Fire officials said a vent fan or an exhaust fan is pretty common for igniting fires inside homes.
“We recommend shutting off vent fans when no one is home and its not necessary to run,” a battalion chief on scene said.
