Veterans get first shot at jobs during San Antonio skilled trades hiring expo

More than 30 employers are expected to attend the construction-focused hiring event.

SAN ANTONIO — Veterans looking for a new career path in construction and skilled trades will get early access to dozens of employers during a major hiring event in San Antonio this week.

The Texas Veterans Commission and Workforce Solutions Alamo are hosting the Construction & Skilled Trades Expo on Tuesday, May 12 at the O’Connor Career Center.

The event will feature more than 30 employers from the South Texas construction industry looking to hire for a variety of positions, including skilled trades, administrative support and other career opportunities.

Veterans will receive priority entry beginning at 8 a.m., with doors opening to the general public at 9 a.m. The hiring expo runs until noon.

Organizers say attendees should come prepared for possible on-the-spot interviews. Interested job seekers can register for the event in advance at Construction & Skilled Trades Expo.

“This event provides an opportunity for veterans to connect with employers in the South Texas construction industry,” said Brian Seiffert, a Veterans Employer Liaison with the Texas Veterans Commission and Air Force veteran.

Veteran Employment Services staff will also be available to help connect veterans directly with hiring companies.

The event will take place at Workforce Solutions Alamo’s O’Connor Career Center located at 11711 Interstate 35 North, Suite 170.
