
Skip the traffic and ride free. VIA is offering no-fare Park & Ride service to San Antonio’s MLK March on Jan. 19.
SAN ANTONIO — Getting to this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. March will be easier and free for riders using VIA Metropolitan Transit.
VIA announced it will offer fare-free Park & Ride service for the 39th annual MLK March and Celebration on Monday, Jan. 19. The event is considered the largest MLK march in the nation.
Free buses will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. from the Alamodome at 100 Montana St., Lot C, and from St. Philip’s College at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive, Lot 22 at Montana and Mittman streets.
Passengers will be dropped off along Martin Luther King Drive, west of Upland Drive, near the march route.
Return service will be available from noon to 3 p.m., with pick-ups at Pittman-Sullivan Park at 1101 Iowa St. Buses will take riders back to their original parking locations.
VIA will also host a community tent at Pittman-Sullivan Park from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the YMCA parking lot. A vintage Dreamliner bus will be on display, and staff will be available to share information about transit programs and the agency’s Keep SA Moving plan.
