Victims of deadly barbershop attack get closure as convicted killer receives prison sentence

“Today’s punishment brings closure to the victims and their families…” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.

SAN ANTONIO — A man convicted of murder for a deadly barbershop attack was sentenced to 42 years in prison on Monday.

On May 6, 2020, 46-year-old Damion Campbell walked into the Diesel Barbershop on Bandera Road where he proceeded to attack the three employees who were preparing to reopen the barbershop that same week.

One of the victims, Helle O’Regan, was stabbed and died from her injuries. The other victims managed to flee, surviving the assault.

The barber’s founder Shayne Brown said the attack was random. “Someone came after my family, for no reason,” Brown said.

According to a press release from the Bexar County District Attorney’s office, Campbell received a 42-year sentence for the first-degree felony murder of Helle O’Regan.

Campbell also pleaded guilty to two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the assault of Brittany Hood-Wright and Gabriella Harrell, each resulting in a 20 year sentence.

Officials say this sentencing will allow some closure for the victims. “We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Helle O’Regan and to those who survived the attack.” Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales said.
