SAN ANTONIO — On Monday, the NBA announced Victor Wembanyama as the Western Conference Player of the Week.
This is the first time Wembanyama has earned the honor, but it was well deserved as he led the Spurs to a 2-0 record while averaging 36 points, 7 blocks, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assist. His shooting was lights out during that span as he shot a solid 21-40 (.525%) from the field, 11-23 (.478%) from behind the arc and 20-24 (.833%) from the free-throw line.
On Dec. 19, Wembanyama put on a show with a 42-point outing where he added 6 rebounds, 6 assist, 4 blocks and 2 steals to his already stacked stat line, which was only the second time in NBA history those numbers were put up. The only other player on that list: Former Spur Danny Green.
But more impressively, just two nights later, Wembanyama finished with a career night where he dropped 30 points, tied his career high in blocks (10) and knocked down his 200th career three-pointer, becoming the 15th fastest player in NBA history to reach that mark.
Wembanyama is currently leading the league in blocks for the second season in a row all while averaging 24.7 points, 10 rebounds and 3.9 assist in 32.4 minutes per game.
