Vigil to be held for mother who has been missing for one year

27-year-old Katelyn Vara went missing after leaving a medical clinic on the west side. Vara’s family will host a vigil at 1714 Austin Highway at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Video shows Vara leaving a medical appointment on the west side of San Antonio on the day she went missing.

After leaving the clinic, her mother Valerie Mendoza says they never heard from her again.

Mendoza says police told her other people were using Kate’s phone after she went missing. Police are looking into Vara’s case as a homicide.

“Whether she is here or are no longer here with us,” said Valerie Mendoza, Katelyn Vara’s mother. “I want my daughter home. She needs she didn’t deserve this. And I’m just hoping that, you know, the money will push somebody to do the right thing and come forward and say what happened to her.”

Vara’s family did post a $3,000 reward for anyone having info.

At Wednesday’s vigil, they’re doing a balloon release and want everyone to rsvp so they have enough balloons.

The vigil is at 1714 Austin Highway at 7 p.m.

The family is asking everyone to wear red to show support.
