This is a DreamWeek event created by Redeemer’s Praise Church. It’s their seventh year providing 1,000 plates in one day.
SAN ANTONIO — Fresh bread is coming out the box and chopped beef is going into the oven to make a meal of love to help others in need.
Shetigo Nakpodia is the pastor of Reedemer’s Praise Church.
Her brother, Shokare Nakpodia, created Dreamweek, and Shetigo wanted to go the extra mile.
“Already, we’re doing about 330 plates a week,” Nakpodia said. “So, I just thought, maybe we should just shoot for a thousand plates one day in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.,”
This is the seventh year volunteers braved the cold to deliver the meals across the city.
“The neighbors, the elderly, the down children, the depressed, the low income, the jobless. Anyone who is hungry today will be fed,” said Nakpodia.
This year they went above and beyond their goal with 1,200 meals.
“God loves them and he cares for them,” said Nakpodia. The word says if I give a cup of water, you receive a blessing. This is more than a cup of water. We’ve taken time since 3 a.m. to cook these meals.”
Redeemer’s Praise provides meals for the community year-round.
You can come to their location on 107 S. Pine St. for groceries and winter clothes.
