Bexar County’s voter registration backlog, once at 7,000, is now resolved, ensuring readiness for the March 3 Primary Election amidst upcoming deadlines.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Elections Administrator said Tuesday that a backlog of voter registration applications reported earlier this month has been resolved.
At its peak, about 7,000 voter registration applications were backlogged, waiting to be processed. The department added temporary staff to help process the applications.
This comes after a backlog tens of thousands of applications that had been in limbo since July was cleared by October. It happened when county officials said it was forced to pause processing as Bexar County’s longtime voter registration vendor abruptly shut down. It was cleared just in time for a Nov. 4 ballot measure that ultimately passed regarding a new Spurs arena downtown and upgrades to the Freeman Coliseum and Frost Bank Center.
“With additional staff brought on, putting in long and hard hours of work, we were able to eliminate the recent backlog well in time for the start of early voting. If any resident has a question, I ask that they call my office right away. I want to reassure our community that we’re going through our final checklists, and I am confident that we are going to have a smoothly run election”, stated Elections Administrator Michele Carew.
This latest backlog has now been cleared in time for the March 3 Primary Election. The voter registration deadline is February 2, 2026 for that and early voting begins on February 17, 2026.
