Walk to honor Brewer Academy student will also be a call for justice, organizers say

Community members will hold a walk to honor Simon Cuevas and demand justice for his death.

SAN ANTONIO — A walk to honor Brewer Academy student Simon Cuevas Thursday will also serve as a call for justice in his death, organizers said.

Police say 14 year-old Simon was fatally shot on April 16 at the corner of South Elmendorf and Merida Street on the city’s west side. Simon was walking home from Brewer Academy at the time and was ambushed by seven other teens, officials said. No suspects have been identified or arrested as of Thursday.

Pastor Jimmy Roblas, a prominent member of the San Antonio community, told media outlets teachers, faith leaders and neighbors will be holding a walkout at 11 a.m. The walk will be from Brewer Academy to the location where Simon was killed.

“Two weeks have passed and still no arrests made in a life lost to senseless violence,” Robles said in a statement.

Last week, Simon’s mother, Alejandra Cuevas, spoke about the shock of learning about her son’s death.

“I didn’t want to believe that it could be our son. I would have never believed, that it would be him,” said Cuevas.

She also called for justice for those who killed Simon.

“I know that I can’t get my son back, and that’s the hardest thing that I have to accept, so for them to pay for what they did, they need to be held accountable,” said Cuevas.

If you know any information about the shooting, please contact the San Antonio Police Department.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
