Wanted man arrested after BCSO finds malnourished horse living in inhumane conditions

The wanted man let BCSO onto his property as they were searching for a suspect that was on the run for another crime. That’s when deputies found the horse.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted man after finding a malnourished horse and stolen trailers on his property.

On Oct. 22, deputies were searching in South Bexar County for a suspect who was involved in a separate crime in the area. Authorities contacted Guillen Vidal Reyes to see if they could search for the suspect on his property and he obliged.

During the search, deputies located a very malnourished white horse laying on its side in a small pin with no water, food or proper shelter. The horse was reportedly showing extreme signs of starvation by, “protruding vertebrae, ribs, hip bones, dry skin, thinning hair and approximately six open sores throughout the horses body,” according to BCSO.

When deputies questioned Reyes about the horse, he claimed it had wandered onto his property six days earlier and he wasn’t the owner, adding “if the horse wanted walk out freely from the pen, the horse was able to do so.”

The deputies called on their Special Enforcements Unit to conduct a further investigation and it was determined, and evident, that the circumstances of animal cruelty were present. Not only that but as investigators looked around the property, they reportedly found several trailers that has been reported as stolen.

The horse was rescued from the property and taken to a local vet to have its injuries evaluated.

Reyes was arrested and taken to the Bexar County Jail. He’s facing the charges of Animal cruelty and his three outstanding warrants for Theft Property
